Video #1. RULE #8, you are NOT ALLOWED to watch my videos. Rule #3, you are NOT ALLOWED to read the video description. Learn the secret of Chat GPT.

I had the good fortune to use the phrase "Proxy using Brotli" in a Teams chat at work, and a rap seemed appropriate to me.

A proxy (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/proxy) is a general term for an intermediary that passes data along between two points, typically with additional processing (e.g. improving security or compression). Proxies drive me insane at work, but I understand they need to be there.

Brotli is a compression format (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotli). And dealing with multiple compression formats is one thing that drives me insane.

Lyrics Interpretation

No lyrics interpretation on this one. This song is just silly.

Soapbox

Seriously, you should use Chat GPT in your daily life. I've found it helpful for parenting (it's a good way to give answers to the inane questions kids ask), researching technical topics, creative expression (e.g. this video), therapy, and psychotherapy, and presumably others can find novel uses I would never dream of. Chat GPT doesn't always give you an answer, but sometimes it points you in the right direction, and sometimes what it gives you is dead on. You have to use your judgment, but you already have to do that for other types of Internet searching. You need to construct text it can respond to constructively. Go to https://openai.com to get started.

One question is whether Chat GPT has an appropriate place in creative expression. I submit my video as a test case for that question. I submitted the phrase 'make a short rap using the phrase "proxy using brotli"' to ChatGPT. I made some small alterations to the text (I'm particularly proud of the phrase "We're an encrypting signal superstar"). I created the piano accompaniment, I attached rhythms and emphasis to the lyrics, I wrote the shout-out and sign-off. Is the totality of the art authentic? I think the answer is yes, but you can develop your own opinion. I think it's a good start, and I have a personal goal of being able to write my own lyrics, but it might take awhile since I have quite a few ideas going through my head.

I was impressed with CGP Grey's ambivalent attitude toward the "like and subscribe" topic, so I decided to take it a step further here. I'm fortunate to have a good development job and I don't really care if that means fewer people watch it. Seriously, you should check out CGP Grey's channel (@CGPGrey). My favorite is the Rules for Rulers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs), which I've watched with my kids like three times.

Full starting point

(Verse 1)
Yo, I'm spitting fire, my words are blazing
Proxy using Brotli, my flow's amazing
Compressing data, keeping it tight
Through cyberspace, taking flight

(Chorus)
Proxy using Brotli, we stay on the low
Keeping it compressed, while we steal the show
From the servers to the streets, we make it known
With every byte we send, our legacy is grown

(Verse 2)
Bypassing filters, we break through the wall
With Brotli compression, we stand tall
Encrypting signals, we're under the radar
Proxy using Brotli, we raise the bar

(Chorus)
Proxy using Brotli, we stay on the low
Keeping it compressed, while we steal the show
From the servers to the streets, we make it known
With every byte we send, our legacy is grown

(Bridge)
In the digital realm, we hold the key
Proxy using Brotli, breaking free
No limits to our reach, no boundaries to our flow
With every data packet, we continue to grow

(Outro)
So remember the name, remember the sound
Proxy using Brotli, we're breaking ground
In this digital age, we're the ones to follow
With our compression game strong, we'll always be tomorrow.
